Sailing is a pleasure, but it requires preparation. To make your day at sea go smoothly, follow these guidelines:
1. Check the weather forecast (Meteo safety)
The weather in the Adriatic can change quickly. Before setting sail, be sure to check the official sources:
- DHMZ - Maritime forecast: The most reliable source for wind direction and sea state.
- Windy app: Excellent for visualizing wind movement in real time.
- Golden rule: If you are not confident in your skills in strong winds (especially bora or jugo), it is better to stay in a safe bay or contact the MAREBOAT team for advice.
2. Getting to know the bridge in Tisno
Tisno is unique for its drawbridge that connects the mainland and the island of Murter.
- Opening times: The bridge opens daily at 09:00 and 17:00 (takes about 20-30 minutes).
- Rules of passage: Ships coming from the south (from the direction of Šibenik) have priority. Be aware of the sea current in the strait, which can be very strong.
3. What to bring on board?
In addition to swimwear, your "nautical bag" should contain:
- Documents: Original boating license (if you are not hiring a skipper) and personal document.
- Protection: High-factor sunscreen, a hat that fits tightly on your head, and sunglasses with polarized lenses (you can see the rocks underwater better).
- Water: Always bring at least 1.5 liters of water per person more than you plan to use.
4. Safety and environmental protection
- Anchoring: When anchoring in bays like Lojena, be careful not to damage the posidonia (seagrass) meadows. Always check that the anchor is holding before you turn off the engine.
- Kornati National Park: If you are sailing to the Kornati Islands, buy tickets online in advance as they are much cheaper than at sea.
- Waste: Take everything you brought on board back off the ship. The sea will thank you!
5. Fuel and handover
You take the ship with a full tank and return it with it. The nearest gas station for ships is in Tisno itself or in nearby Murter and Jezera.
